We want to celebrate Adaminaby and the Snowy Mountains. In particular, the courage of the people and beauty of the region.
The quilts are to be no more than 1 metre square and can be a reflection of anything to do with Adaminaby.
Information to help you -
Kangaroos, wombats, wallabies, eagles, red rosellas, cockatoos, galahs and fairy wrens abound. Snakes and blue tongues with the odd goanna.
There is of course brumbies - some horsemen are of the opinion that the Adaminaby Brumby is superior to brumbies from other regions.
Sheep - merino, dorpers, border leicesters, dohne and coloured sheep are commercial farmed as are Boer goats, cashmere and angora. Alpacas do well also.
Most beef cattle breeds are here but the Black Angus reigns supreme.
Recreation is TROUT fishing - there is one 10 metres high - skiing, bushwalking, horse riding etc. Light plane flying is also becoming popular.
Plants - gum trees - red, alpine ash, alpine daisies, lupins, roses, apple, peach and cherries, most cold climate bulbs, conifers particularly, the blue spruce. Of course the maples and poplars run through the whole colour range.
Climate ranges from minus 10 or 12 up to the high 30 degrees. This can cause snow. sleet and ice in winter and days where you can see forever in summer.
Instead of us selecting materials that you must use, we will instead give a packet of materials worth in excess of $10 to each and every entrant.
First prize for the Challenge Quilt is sufficient material, wadding and backing to make a double bed quilt.
Second and third prizes will also be material.
A special prize for best Junior is also available.
